Ten local students received thousand dollar scholar awards at the West Las Vegas Library for their exceptional academic achievements and civic contributions. January 2014 PwC Charitable Foundation Awards $20,000 to Support Innovative Teen Program.The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation has been awarded $20,000 from the PwC Charitable Foundation in support of the TechArt Studio, a priority project that provides middle and high school youth access to digital literacy skills and production and strengthens their connections to employment opportunities. The award provides support for equipment such as laptops, software and cameras. The grant builds on the $10,000 award last year that provided equipment and training from consultants experienced in starting up youth digital technology programs. Read More

June 2011 MEET THE 2011 WINNERS OF THE TOM AND BONNIE LAWYER SCHOLARSHIPS
The West Las Vegas Library has always been a place that nurtures neighborhood youth. Past president of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation Board, Tom Lawyer and his wife, Bonnie, were astonished to learn about the exceptional services and resources provided by that library and staff. In honor of the library's commitment to the community, the couple pledged to award five $1,000 scholarships for five years to graduating seniors from West Las Vegas who are pursuing higher education. This year, with 18 applications submitted, the Lawyers and the Foundation awarded eight scholarships. Read More

May 2010 TOM AND BONNIE LAWYER AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS TO FIVE LOCAL YOUTH
When the Library Foundation Board met at the West Las Vegas Library in January, President Tom Lawyer surprised the group by making a generous offer to fund a five-year program to give away five $1,000 scholarships to area youth who are graduating from high school and pursuing further educational goals. His motivation? His great respect for the deep community work being done by the West Las Vegas staff, including Leo Segura, Barbara Coleman, Jani Jeppe, Carol Chambers, Lisa Gibson, and former WLV staff Nancy Hutchinson and Felton Thomas.
