RETOOL WITH LIBRARY RESOURCES
Headlines across the country are highlighting the important role of public libraries in these challenging times. The use of books, media, computers and library cultural and educational programs at our library is soaring. Far from fading away, the library today provides critical support for job-seekers, business owners, English language learners, families with young children, students, and seniors. Your support of the Library District Foundation helps us strategically expand these resources at a time when people need them most.

E.L. Doctorow was the honored guest at the Library District Foundation reception for the Vegas Valley Book Festival on Sunday, November 8, 2009. Winner of the National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award, Doctorow is the author of riveting novels that include The March, Billy Bathgate, and Ragtime.
Doctorow is quoted as saying that “writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go.” The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and Foundation missions support that kind of learning, providing the community with resources and places for discovery, exploration and self-actualization. As the community’s studio, study, and living room, the Library District was a proud co-host of the Vegas Valley Book Festival (with the City of Las Vegas, Nevada Humanities and the Las Vegas Review-Journal) which celebrates the written, spoken and illustrated word.

Many thanks to the Estancia Winery for their generous support of this reception.
